Hi, My name is Mohamed,I think that the TOFEL exam is not that hard, it only need practics espicillay on an exams like the TOFEL exam "simulation exams", cause this will help you to solve the time problem, and it'll give you the experience of the real exam. And really it's not that hard all it needs is depending on your practics, and "LUCK" in the topic thatcomes in the exam.
ReplyDelete1660 L St. NW. Suite 204 Washington, D.C. 20036 is where I took a Toefl test. It was last week of Saturday and was my first exam of Toefl. I was little nervous, but I said myself that I could take exam one more time so I don't need to worry about it. Then my mind was cleared - I think the tip is control yourself. What surprised me was, every time I heard a story that other people's experiences of Toefl, they always complained about noisy of other people; the one who sat next me was so noisy, so I could not concentrate. However, there was 20 people in the room and they tried not to be distracting other people. Even, exam staffs? were providing the ear blockers? The thing is like earplug but was bigger than that so we could block our whole ear so I could take exam without any noisy. What worried me was that when I was taking the exam, we had break time in between the tests, so people were going out and in, since I sat right next to the door, I could hear them so I could not focus on the tests. So what I want to say about Toefl tip is do not sit right next to the door and control your mind.
ReplyDeleteI took the test two and a half years ago in Belém, Brazil. What surprised me most was that the reading and, specially, the listening sections were easier than I thought. On the other hand, I found the test too long and I certain moments during the test I had some trouble keeping focused on the exam. This was an issue, but I'm certainly that I could have avoided it, if had practiced more simulations test.
ReplyDeleteThe speaking section was the hardest one for me. Not that I had trouble speaking, but I had not prepared myself accordingly to the style of questions asked in this section. Some of the questions were not trivial to prepare a quick response even if I was supposed to answer in portuguese! Thus, to dodge this, I recommend for future test takers to really get prepared to answer quickly to what you might get asked on the exam. There are plenty of online resources with sample question of the speaking section.
The writing section was ok and to prepare to it, I would recommend lots of critical reading of newspapers, for instance, in order to develop one's vision of what is good writing and critical thinking. On the test day, pay close attention to the structure of the text you are writing. Make sure to convince yourself that your essay has, indeed, the capacity of convincing the reader about your arguments and point of view on the topic you are writing about. I one of the essays you have to write you will first listen to a lecture/discussion. Make sure, that while listening, to take notes of the main ideas you are listening to.
All in all, I thought the TOEFL were not as scary as people use to say. As any other standardized exam, lots of practicing undoubtedly will lead to a good score. During the test day, make sure to be relaxed, wearing comfortable clothes and try to be as focused as possible on your test. Absolutely forget about the other people that are taking the test in the same room as you. You will surely be fine.
